Redcurrant

Where do currants get their name? Quite simply, they reach their optimum ripeness from around St. John's Day in June.

Taste. Red currants taste sour to sour.

Effect. Red currants are very valuable fruit. They contain many vitamins (e.g. vitamin C), minerals (e.g. potassium, iron), secondary plant compounds and fiber. The vitamin C unfolds numerous positive effects on health, and in interaction with the phenolic acids and flavonoids can also prevent the deposition of cholesterol on the arterial walls and thus reduce the risk of high blood pressure and heart attacks. In addition, currants have a relatively high content of dietary fiber, which also helps to lower cholesterol and promotes digestion.
