Hops

Most people are familiar with hops as an important ingredient for brewing beer, because it is the hops that make the beer durable.

Taste. The spectrum of flavours ranges from ‘floral’ to ‘fruity-sweet’ to ‘menthol’, and the taste can be spicy, woody or earthy.

Effect. Hildegard von Bingen already knew that its bitterness prevents putrefaction. The plant has a clear antiseptic power. It has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. The bitter substances in hop cones also stimulate digestion, strengthening the stomach, liver, intestines and gall bladder. They also have a diuretic, analgesic and antispasmodic effect.
