Taste. The spectrum of flavours ranges from ‘floral’ to ‘fruity-sweet’ to ‘menthol’, and the taste can be spicy, woody or earthy.
Effect. Hildegard von Bingen already knew that its bitterness prevents putrefaction. The plant has a clear antiseptic power. It has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. The bitter substances in hop cones also stimulate digestion, strengthening the stomach, liver, intestines and gall bladder. They also have a diuretic, analgesic and antispasmodic effect.
