Effect. Camomile is one of the oldest known medicinal plants and has long been used to treat many illnesses such as colds or stomach complaints. The active ingredients of camomile - polyacetylenes, flavonoids, mucilage and essential oil - give it its antispasmodic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. The anti-inflammatory effect of the medicinal herb is attributed to the substances bisabolol, matricin, umbelliferone and chamazulene.
