Ribwort plantain

Culinary ribwort is little known. Yet the leaves of the plants are rich in vitamin C and can be processed in many ways.

Taste. Ribwort plantain with its slightly mushroom-like flavour is an interesting ingredient in wild herb salads, especially when the tender leaves sprout in spring.

Effect. Even today, ribwort plantain plays an important role in naturopathy. The ingredients contained in the medicinal herb can alleviate numerous ailments. It is mainly mucilage, tannins, bitter substances and the glycoside aucubin that make up the healing properties of ribwort plantain. Together, these substances have an anti-inflammatory, anti-irritant, antibacterial, astringent, antitussive, antispasmodic, hepatoprotective and partially antiviral effect.
