Fennel

Fennel is a very versatile herb and is used both in cooking and in the relief of many ailments.

Taste. Fennel tastes sweet and slightly aniseed to liquorice-like. The entire plant exudes a pleasant sweet, aromatic fragrance due to its rich essential oils.

Effect. The healing effect of fennel is primarily due to its essential oils. Probably the most important oil in fennel is trans-anethole. This has an antispasmodic, expectorant and antibacterial effect. In addition to anethole, fenchone, which has a rather bitter flavour and above all has a germ-inhibiting effect, plays an even greater role.
